Photos by Jere Torkelsen.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>NTC\u2019s new production of this concept play is thoughtfully wrought on the narrow NTC stage that represents Torwald\u2019s Victorian house.&nbsp; It is a sequel to the original play, but stands alone as a statement of women\u2019s progress in the age when women were marching for women\u2019s suffrage.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Written and produced in a time that is 140 years later than the date of the play, Lucas Hnath\u2019s sequel is more than just a rehashing of old wounds; it has a life of its own meant to resolve the questions left by Henrick Ibsen when Nora walked out. Photos by Jere Torkelsen.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In walks <em>Nora\u2019s<\/em> daughter <em>Emmy<\/em> (played by Jannely Calmell), without much reaction to her mother.&nbsp; Eventually, <em>Nora\u2019s<\/em> husband, <em>Torvald<\/em> (played by Mark Clark), enters to the situation without initial recognition of his long estranged wife.&nbsp; After a good period, he recognizes <em>Nora<\/em> and has to leave the stage to compose himself.&nbsp; Upon his return, the reason for <em>Nora\u2019s<\/em> return is made clear to all: she wants a divorce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Okay.&nbsp; Clark responds quite normally (and emotionally) to the initial shock of seeing <em>Nora<\/em> after 15 years.&nbsp; Director Eichenberger has gleaned the best emotional catharsis in these first minutes of <em>Torvald\u2019s<\/em> reaction. <em>Nora<\/em> is all business. We soon find out how <em>Nora<\/em> has evolved and why she wants the divorce after 15 years. <em>Anne Marie<\/em> is worried about <em>Torvald<\/em>, and <em>Emma<\/em> is unaffected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theatrehound.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Emmy-Nora-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Jannely Calmell (as Emmy), Alison Peltz (as Nora). Photo by Jere Torkelsen.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After <em>Nora<\/em> has explained her needs to <em>Torvald<\/em>, both characters are moved to change radically.
